Joshua Tree
When I made my way into the desert that night, I was not anticipating meeting him. Even as I write this account down, I realize what a cliché I have become. I drove up 29 Palms Highway to Yucca Valley rushing in at sunset. I scaled the backroads I knew and arrived at the entrance to Joshua Tree National Forest by 8:30 that night. I nodded to the guard at the entrance and flashed my pass at him. “Hey! Alex! Long time no see, Lady!” The guard said to me with a playful grin. “Hiya, Jack, been what? A week already?” I replied with a giggle. I was ready for some night sky gazing alone in the wild desert. I longed to hear the coyotes howl at the moon and watching stars fall effortlessly from the sky. I work at a trashy discount store that tests my limits every day. Not only were the customers rude the managers were very upsetting. I go in every day, punch in my numbers, and allow my soul to be crushed for six hours, thirty minutes six days a week. The days are always busy with nary a moment
