Literature Text

We were the dirty kids
the ones who grew up on
the streets in
East Side San Jose.

We roamed the streets
hunting for food
avoiding pimps and their girls
running free in the dead of night.

We didn't know our poppas
our mommas hooked
on nasty drugs or drink
so we were forgotten.

We were the underbelly of the city
we could get you drugs or a gun
make a big life on the streets
don't look in our eyes.

We grew up outside bars
so mommas could meet dirty men
a huge underground of us
the dirty kids.

We were the ones you kept
your pristine kids away from
the ones with no education
but street smarts abound.

Some grew into whores
others drop panties
to the first guy
who 'cared'.

Others rose above it
new found pappas
pay for college
they move on.

But, some grew into the
mommas and hung out in bars
while their kids stayed out
repeating mommas lifestyle.

Yes, we were the dirty ones,
the ones you kept your kids away from
maybe it's catching...
maybe we'll gobble you up.

Ah, yes the dirty ones.
True story.
